Another year of harvest has arrived for the Green Family Winery and an age old tradition is taking place. At the winery we harvest and crush the grapes by hand the old fashioned way. It may be hard work but many hands certainly make light work. It also makes for a great after party and BBQ on the crush pad! Here are just a few pictures to give you an idea of how human-powered wine is made :)

These are just a few of the pictures of our work from last week. We pick on Saturdays and have only one more
week to go. I want to send a HUGE thank you to our friends and volunteers for coming out and making this year
one of our most exciting harvests ever! Jeremy, Pauli, Chris, Justin, Bryan, Jason, Sierra, and Ian...
You guys rock!

I know this may be a stretch but can you guys do a post on your wine prep? Im growing some muscadine grapes for wine production one day hopefully. I would love to know how you guys prepare, if you don't mind sharing
Hi ATW,
First of all I would like to welcome you to the wonderful world of wine!
This blog is mainly used for documenting the ongoing progress of our urban farm (which is not located at the vineyard). Winemaking is just another one of our family businesses and the complete details of winemaking are far beyond the scope of one posting. Feel free to visit from time to time as there will definitely more wine related news as the seasons progress!
In the meanwhile, I can highly recommend a book called "Grapes into Wine" by Phillip M Wagner. Its a good beginner book and there are also countless websites and books that would be good to start with. Since the season for grapes is pretty much over for now, this would be an excellent chance for you to get educated about the basic wine making principals and deciding on exactly what you'd like to do as far as varietals, location, and all of the many details of wine you will have to know about. Don't be afraid to ask us more specific questions if you have them! :)
Happy winemaking!!!
